Coronavirus Wedding Photography
Huge congratulations to Lauren and Andrew, who were married during the most unprecedented of circumstances! Covid-19 well and truly put the kibosh on the 2020 wedding season, but this couple was determined to make the most of a trying situation. Read on to hear all about my Covid-19 wedding photography. Lauren and Andrew’s big day was to take place at the Lake District’s Cragwood Country House Hotel. In keeping with government guidelines, a few adjustments would have to be made in order for everyone to celebrate safely.
Big day...
The biggest and most difficult, of course, was choosing only the couple’s very nearest and dearest to attend. One person who wouldn’t dream of missing out was the father of the bride, who thanks to his mask was able to escort his daughter from the bridal suite and introduce her to guests. It can be hard to look stylish in a mask, but the entire wedding party opted for coordinating his and hers designs, which will certainly make unique keepsakes of the day! Lauren, meanwhile, looked lovely in a gown from the Ivory Dressing Room.
Capture the Moment
Following the ceremony itself, which I photographed in colour to reflect the joy and emotion of the occasion, I switched to black and white photography in keeping with the signing of the register’s timeless nature. As opposed to posing couples, my role as a wedding photographer is to capture the moment as unobtrusively as possible – doesn’t Lauren’s smile say it all? Elaborate group shots can be quite time consuming and so a perk of my Covid-19 wedding photography was the ability to devote more attention to the newlyweds. One of my favourite images is that of the couple set against a backdrop of autumn woodland and the shores of Lake Windermere. Following the wedding breakfast it was time for the speeches. In order to reflect the poignancy of these words I decided to switch to black and white wedding photography, which is a technique you’ll often notice in my work.
Tying the Knot
Aside from the reduced costs involved, the upside of a pared back wedding is a couple’s ability to spend quality time with loved ones and be truly present. As much as we love a big wedding, perhaps intimate affairs with a more deliberate choice of guest is something we’ll carry forward into a post-Covid world? While it must have been difficult for Lauren and Andrew to adjust their expectations for the big day, I hope the unexpected positives made it just as memorable. It’s a testament to the couple’s love that tying the knot was important regardless of circumstance. A huge thank you to Lauren and Andrew for being such good sports and letting me capture your rather little big day – this is certainly one wedding I’ll never forget!
