Ashfield House in Wigan is another of my favourite wedding venues as a wedding photographer. It’s a quirky venue, very personal and the kind of place where everyone, bride and groom, wedding party and guests, never fail to feel at home.
Grand yet homely, and packed with amazing period features and all sorts of fantastic wedding photography backdrops, Ashfield House is literally bursting with joy. Centrally located for Lancashire, Manchester and Merseyside weddings, the venue is naturally suited to weddings, and the 15 guest bedrooms are perfect for getting ready and staying over.
Ashfield House - The Perfect Wedding Photography Backdrop
I love the vaulted ceiling of the Ceremony Room at Ashfield House, with its charming plasterwork features and glorious chandeliers. The lighting is amazing, lashing of natural light come flooding through the floor to ceiling windows, and the upper ledges are the ideal place to fill with personalised trinkets to really bring your own personality to the venue and the day.
The Grand Hallway with its dominating staircase is particularly photo-worthy, and makes a spectacular setting for those special after-ceremony shots.
When it comes to the after party, the super cool Library Bar is a great place to capture guests in their natural poses, lounging on the sofas and enjoying a good chat and a laugh.
For wedding photography, Ashfield House Wigan is perfect year round. With its beautiful grounds and surrounding country lanes, there is plenty of scope for memorable shots come winter, spring, summer or autumn.
Ashfield House Wedding Venue – a Charming History
Built in 1755, Ashfield House has been through an array of extensions and renovations over the years, all with a view to restoring its heritage and retaining its intriguing history. But it wasn’t until 1993, more than two centuries after it was first built, that Ashfield House was granted permission to transform it into a luxury hotel and restaurant.
In 2007, the property was earmarked for sale to be turned into apartments. But fate intervened, the recession hit, and the developers pulled out. Two years later, Katie Street visited Ashfield House and immediately recognised its potential as a wedding venue. So she quit her corporate job and, with no experience in the wedding industry behind her, embarked on a new career, successfully turning Ashfield House into the award-winning, widely renowned wedding venue it is today.

I really enjoyed shooting Nicola and Andrew’s Ashfield House wedding reception in May 2022. It was a glorious day with beautiful blue skies, the perfect spring wedding.

Samantha and Jonny’s Ashfield House wedding took place during Covid restrictions, but nevertheless and despite there being a reduced guest list, it was a wonderful day that resulted in some truly memorable photos.
