Wedding Photography at Shankly Hotel Liverpool

Congratulations to Shehanie and Darius on their big day. Although I have previously photographed at this venue, what I particularly enjoyed about being a Shankly hotel wedding photographer on this occasion was witnessing the fusion of two very contrasting cultures.
The bridal party prepared at the Inkeeper’s Lodge in Ormskirk, each of the bridesmaids adopting traditional Sri Lankan costume in honour of their friend. Isn’t the mother of the bride’s electric blue sari breathtaking?
The groom, best men and ushers, meanwhile, got suited and booted at the Shankly Hotel . All wore suits from John Monk, and the father of the bride even co-ordinated his tie with his wife’s outfit. Darius also received a sweet gift from his wife-to-be.
On the way to St Anne’s church we stopped at the home of Shehanie’s parents for a traditional milk ceremony. Close family and friends enjoyed a mixture of savoury and sweet foods reserved for special occasions and prepared in a particular way to bring good luck, whilst the bride completed the ancient Sinhalese tradition of drinking a glass of milk, said to be a symbol of abundance.

St Anne's Church

Inside the church, both mothers lit a unity candle to represent the union of their families. After the ceremony, the weather was perfect for the newlyweds and guests to mingle outside and take some colourful photographs. Along with confetti, the happy couple were showered with £5 notes!
On our way to the wedding breakfast we took additional photos of the bride and groom on the grounds of St George’s Hall .
The couple were introduced by Sri Lankan dancers, which both were very impressed by. As a Shankly Hotel wedding photographer I witness many events, so to experience a different culture’s customs is a real treat.

Speeches and Evening Party, Fun for Ever

The speeches by Darius’s two best men had everybody chuckling. If you couldn’t already tell that family was important to this huge clan, photographs were displayed of previous generations on their respective wedding days.

For the evening party, Shehanie wore a stunning red sari. Guests boogied to Sri Lankan dance music, and both fathers showed everybody how it’s done on the dance floor. Props were provided to inspire fun photos as the night wore on, and both bride and groom even did some crowd surfing!
